Well, Happy Canada Day everyone!

It’s July 1st and well, that means that it’s Canada Day up here in the Great White North!

Canada is 143 years old today.  My family and I are up in Whistler right now, and we’re going to be going out soon to Whistler Village to partake in the festivities which include a bunch of kids activities and concerts.

While we’re waiting for the rain to subside, I got to thinking of some of the concerts I used to go to in Ottawa while I was growing up.  Canada Day in the National Capital is THE place to be on July 1st.

So, besides Canada Day concerts, I got to thinking of all the fantastic acts that have come out of Canada … obviously, this is an incomplete list, but it’s been quite cool seeing how many I can think of in the couple of minutes I have before we jump out the door:

  • Rush – a bug “duh” for those of you who know me – Moving Pictures was one of the first albums I got and I’ve been a fan ever since.
  • Saga – a bit of a progressive / rock theme so far, but one fantastic band.
  • Triumph – Rik Emmet is THE quintessential Canadian Rock guitarist
  • The Spoons – one of my guilty pleasures during the ’80s.  Gordon Deppe and Sandy Horne….

In the interest of not spending WAY too much time on my holiday, I decided to pull out the iPod and get a glimpse into my scary iTunes library for some fodder:

  • BTO
  • Barenaked Ladies
  • Alexisonfire
  • Blue Rodeo
  • Bryan Adams
  • Chilliwack,
  • 54-40
  • Furnaceface,
  • Glass Tiger,
  • The Guess Who,
  • Honeymoon Suite,
  • I Mother Earth,
  • In-Flight Safety,
  • Kim Mitchell
  • Lighthouse,
  • Manteca,
  • Uzeb,
  • Max Webster,
  • Matthew Good,
  • Men Without Hats,
  • The New Pornographers,
  • Our Lady Peace,
  • Patrick Watson,
  • Platinum Blonde,
  • The Shuffle Demons,
  • Tom Cochrane & Red Rider,
  • Skinny Puppy,
  • Sloan,
  • Spirit of the West,
  • The Tea Party,
  • Tokyo Police Club,
  • The Tragically Hip,
  • The Trews,
  • Trooper,
  • The Weakerthans

There are probably a whole bunch more, but we’re about to step out the door to the mountain air!
